God of War Franchise Story
The God of War franchise is a series of action-adventure video games developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The series follows the story of Kratos, a Spartan warrior who seeks revenge against the gods of Olympus after they betray him and kill his family.
The first game in the series, God of War, was released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. The game was a critical and commercial success, and spawned two sequels, God of War II (2007) and God of War III (2010). In 2018, a reboot of the series, simply titled God of War, was released for the PlayStation 4. The reboot was also a critical and commercial success, and won numerous awards, including Game of the Year.
The God of War franchise is known for its brutal combat, stunning visuals, and epic storytelling. The games have sold over 51 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time.
God of War (2005)
The first God of War game tells the story of Kratos, a Spartan warrior who is betrayed by the gods of Olympus and has his family killed. Kratos is then given a chance to avenge his family by killing Ares, the god of war. Kratos travels to Athens and fights his way through hordes of monsters and gods in order to reach Ares. In the end, Kratos defeats Ares and becomes the new god of war.
God of War II (2007)
God of War II begins with Kratos as the new god of war. However, Kratos is still haunted by the memories of his past and the death of his family. Kratos is then visited by Athena, the goddess of wisdom, who tells him that he must travel to the Island of Creation in order to find the Sisters of Fate and change his destiny. Kratos travels to the Island of Creation and fights his way through hordes of monsters and gods in order to reach the Sisters of Fate. In the end, Kratos defeats the Sisters of Fate and changes his destiny.
God of War III (2010)
God of War III begins with Kratos on a quest to kill Zeus, the king of the gods. Kratos travels to Mount Olympus and fights his way through hordes of monsters and gods in order to reach Zeus. In the end, Kratos defeats Zeus and destroys Mount Olympus.
God of War (2018)
The 2018 God of War game is a reboot of the series. The game tells the story of Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to the Nine Realms in order to spread the ashes of Kratos’s wife. Along the way, Kratos and Atreus must fight their way through hordes of monsters and gods. The game ends with Kratos and Atreus reaching the summit of the Nine Realms and spreading the ashes of Kratos’s wife.
The Future of the God of War Franchise
The future of the God of War franchise is uncertain. Sony Santa Monica Studio has not announced any plans for future games in the series. However, given the success of the 2018 reboot, it is likely that we will see more God of War games in the future.
